Israeli guards raid prison cell at Negev jail as Palestinian prisoners face worsening conditions

Israeli prison guards carried out a raid on Cell 11 in Section 25 of the Negev Prison earlier this month, amid a sharp deterioration in living conditions for Palestinian prisoners, according to the Asra Media Office (AMO).

AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli prison guards carried out a raid on Cell 11 in Section 25 of the Negev Prison earlier this month, amid a sharp deterioration in living conditions for Palestinian prisoners, according to the Asra Media Office (AMO).

Sources cited by AMO said detainees in Section 25 are suffering from inadequate food, with low quality, alongside deteriorating health and basic services. Bathroom conditions were described as extremely poor due to constant sewage blockages, while access to outdoor breaks has been irregular and subject to restrictions.

The AMO said prisoners have experienced significant weight loss in January as a result of deliberate starvation policies, poor nutrition, and ongoing medical neglect. It warned that conditions are worsening by the day due to what it described as abusive Israeli policies, calling for immediate intervention to end violations and meet prisoners’ basic needs.

In a separate statement, Hamas said footage aired by Hebrew-language media showing brutal abuse of detainees exposes what it called a full-fledged humanitarian crime inside Israeli prisons, not merely isolated violations. The Movement condemned international silence, particularly as Israeli officials and media figures openly boast about practices that should shock the global conscience.

More than 9,300 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including thousands under administrative detention without charge or trial, in what rights groups describe as a blatant violation of basic justice standards.

Hamas said prisoners face physical and psychological abuse, deliberate medical neglect, denial of family visits, and policies of restriction and starvation that threaten their lives and health.

It urged the international community, the United Nations and its agencies, and human rights organizations to move beyond silence, press Israel to respect the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law, allow unrestricted prison visits by international bodies, and hold Israeli officials accountable.
